Postbus AG is putting eleven Mercedes-Benz eCitaro electric buses into operation in the southern Weinviertel region of Lower Austria.

These will be the first all-electric Mercedes-Benz buses to enter regular service in Austria.

Electric Buses Austria
Postbus AG will be putting eleven new Mercedes-Benz eCitaros into operation

The electric buses will be used as part of the ‘Schweinbarther Kreuz’ project which connects to the train stations at Gänserndorf, Wolkersdorf, and Mistelbach.

To provide non-stop bus services at hourly intervals, eight of the electric buses will constantly operate on two routes. During this time, the batteries in the other buses will be charged with up to 300kW of power.

All eleven vehicles have a pantograph for rapid charging of the high-voltage batteries, which takes approximately 30 minutes.

EVN is currently setting up charging stations for the buses, using 100% renewable power

The eCitaros are also equipped with the Omniplus ON Bus Data Center real-time communication module to allow the control centre to monitor all vehicle operating conditions, such as battery charge level or remaining range in real time.
