US Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy has announced the investment of 2 billion USD into 165 transit projects across 45 states, as well as Washington DC.

The funding, which will come from the Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA) Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Program and the Low or No Emission Grant Program, is set to be used to deliver 2,400 buses, as well as improvements for country-wide bus infrastructure and traffic congestion.

Projects selected to receive funding within the Fiscal Year (FY) 2025-2026 include a replacement of older diesel buses, building of a new CNG fuelling station and upgrade of a maintenance facility for the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO) in Houston (101 million USD); the purchase of new CNG buses to replace existing diesel buses for the Hillsborough Transit Authority (HART), in Tampa, Florida (32 million USD); and the replacement of older vehicles and statewide construction of bus facilities across the state for the Iowa Department of Transportation.

FTA Administrator Marc Molinaro said:

Transit buses provide a vital service for millions of Americans every day.

These grants will strengthen connections between communities, boost bus safety and reliability, and enhance mobility and quality of life for passengers.
