New Flyer has supplied more than 700 buses to SFMTA over the past decade.

SFMTA oversees San Francisco’s transport network, which includes public transit, traffic management, cycling, and pedestrian infrastructure. The agency’s Muni operates a diverse fleet, consisting of hybrid and battery-electric buses, trolleys, streetcars, light rail vehicles, and cable cars. With around 500,000 daily boardings, it served 158 million passenger journeys in 2024.

Hybrid-electric buses provide an intermediary step towards zero-emission transport, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and fuel consumption. By integrating modern propulsion technology, the ordered buses aim to improve overall performance while supporting the transition to sustainable transit solutions in San Francisco.

Chris Stoddart, President of North American Bus and Coach at NFI said:

By replacing aging vehicles in their fleet, these next-generation hybrid buses will integrate cutting-edge technology to maximise efficiency, power, and performance—ensuring a more reliable, sustainable, and cost-effective transit system for the people of San Francisco.
