Alexander Dennis will begin offering electric repowering services for its diesel buses in a partnership with specialist engineering firm, KleanDrive.
The new AD Repower solution is planned to both eliminate tailpipe emissions and extend the operating life of existing vehicle fleets.
AD Repower will initially be offered for the company’s Enviro400 double decker as part of a pilot scheme, with the first vehicle scheduled to be in operation during the first half of 2026 before an expansion to other models and markets.
As part of the collaboration; KleanDrive will replace both the buses’ existing diesel engine and transmission with its own ‘plug and play’ electric drivetrain system and control software, along with a Voith Electrical Drive System (VEDS) motor and power electronics installed in a skid system.
The technology is also used in Alexander Dennis’ new electric buses.
KleanDrive has stated it expects its 352 kWh CARL lithium-iron-phosphate batteries to provide a driving range of 195 at 50% passenger capacity per single charge.
Each vehicle’s interior layout will remain unchanged, allowing for full seated capacity once converted.
