Alexander Dennis has announced detailed specifications for its next-generation Enviro200EV single-decker, scheduled for launch in 2025.

The vehicle is part of the company’s ongoing commitment to expanding its zero-emission bus portfolio in the UK.

The Enviro200EV builds upon the success of the original Enviro200, Britain’s best-selling bus, and aligns with Alexander Dennis’ development of zero-emission models. It follows the rollout of the Enviro400EV double-decker and the compact Enviro100EV.

Paul Davies, President and Managing Director of Alexander Dennis said:

With the next-generation Enviro200EV, Britain’s best bus is becoming Britain’s best zero-emission bus. We’re continuing the same design principles that have underpinned over 22,000 vehicles since the original Dennis Dart launched the modern lightweight bus 35 years ago. The next-generation Enviro200EV will be another great bus that is the perfect fit for operators both here in the UK and internationally.

The Enviro200EV offers a versatile platform across midi and full-size single-decker lengths, with core options of 9.9m, 10.9m, and 11.7m. An additional 10.4m model will be available specifically for Transport for London (TfL).

All models share a 2.47m body width, optimising manoeuvrability without sacrificing passenger comfort.

Provincial models can seat up to 33, 39, or 43 passengers, depending on length, with total capacities reaching 92 passengers. The London-specific models feature two doors and seating capacities of 26 to 34, accommodating up to 72 passengers.

The design prioritises accessibility with a low-floor area, reduced wheel intrusion, and options for one or two wheelchair spaces.

Key engineering highlights of the Enviro200EV include:

  • A lightweight structure, approximately two tonnes lighter than comparable models, improving energy efficiency without compromising durability.
  • A Voith Electrical Drive System, with medium-duty and heavy-duty options tailored to route demands.
  • A 400kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery from CATL, supporting up to 1.4GWh of warrantable energy throughput.

The vehicle also offers a 97% grid-to-wheel efficiency, measured under the UK’s Zemo Partnership standards, ensuring operational cost-effectiveness for transport operators.

Engineering for the Enviro200EV is nearing completion, with production set to commence shortly.
