Alexander Dennis has announced the successful delivery of a set of two Enviro100EV small battery-electric buses to the States of Guernsey as part of a multi-year framework contract.

The two Enviro100EV buses were purchased following the completion of an earlier trial of a similar vehicle on the Channel Island, as well as a procurement process that saw Alexander Dennis’s offer scoring highest for customer experience, island operation, battery range and overall efficiency.

The vehicles are the first electric buses to enter operation on the island

The State of Guernsey intends to utilise operation statistics from its first two electric buses to give it a stronger insight into their suitability for roads and infrastructure, forming part of a planned gradual replacement of the island’s entire bus fleet.

Referred to as the ‘big small bus’ by its manufacturer; the Enviro100EV can accommodate 25 seated and up to 45 total passengers in within its 8.5-metre-long body, rendering it suitable for Guernsey’s more narrow roads. It is powered by the Driventic Vehicle Electrical Drive System (VEDS), with 354kWh batteries giving the vehicle substantial operation range on a single charge.

Shaun Millar, National Account Manager for Alexander Dennis said:

We’re delighted that our Enviro100EV has been chosen for Guernsey’s first electric buses. The size and manoeuvrability of ‘big small bus’ make it ideal for the island’s roads while offering passengers the comfort of a much larger vehicle.

We look forward to supporting the ongoing operation with insights from our comprehensive AD Connect telematics to help maximise efficiency and lay the foundation for further electrification of Guernsey’s bus fleet.
