Marcos Hart, Managing Director London at Arriva UK Bus said:

Arriva UK Bus is committed to decarbonising our fleet in London, and this most recent order with Volvo builds on the millions of pounds we have already invested in creating the clean, electrified and efficient public transport networks that communities in the capital deserve.

The 10.9-metre BZL Electric Double Deck buses, built to Transport for London specifications, aim to offer enhanced passenger comfort and quieter journeys.

Features include high-back seats, USB charging points, and glass skylights on the upper deck, creating a bright and airy interior.

Arriva drivers will also benefit from reduced noise and vibration thanks to the BZL Electric driveline.

Domenico Bondi, Managing Director of Volvo Bus UK & Ireland, said:

As our industry embraces electromobility, we prioritise sustainability, safety, and reliability throughout our processes – from material sourcing and manufacturing to operation and recycling. So, we’re proud and excited to be supplying Arriva London with all-electric buses in that instantly recognisable red livery!

The new buses will be powered by Volvo’s 200kW electric driveline, which includes an electric motor paired with a two-stage automated gearbox. Each bus is equipped with five lithium-ion batteries, providing a total energy storage capacity of 470kWh.

The buses also feature a regenerative braking system that recovers energy during deceleration, extending the range and enhancing efficiency.

Through this contract, Arriva London will leverage Volvo Buses’ dedicated London Field Service Technical Team, providing on-site support. They also have the backing of three Volvo Truck and Bus dealerpoints in Enfield, Hayes, and Croydon. This ensures quick access to Genuine Volvo Parts and round-the-clock technical support.
