Tickets will begin at an introductory price of 9.99 AUD one-way, with all tickets valid for three months from their initial purchase.

The Sunshine Express will travel between Sunshine Station and Melbourne Airport, with both new services forming part of SkyBus’ new contract with the Victorian Government, that lasts through to the end of 2034.

SkyBus has also stated a commitment to transitioning to a fully electric fleet across Melbourne by 2031, with the electrification rollout set to include the country’s first electric double decker buses, which will arrive by mid-2027.

The Sunshine Express will begin services utilising an all-electric fleet, whilst the Eastern Express will make the transition in 2026.

CEO of SkyBus’ parent company Kinetic, Michael Sewards, said:

These new Eastern Express and Sunshine Express services will connect more Melbourne communities directly to the airport, providing a convenient and affordable transport option.

Since its humble beginnings as a single-bus airport shuttle service nearly 50 years ago, SkyBus has grown to carry almost 3 million people to and from the airport every year, and these new services will help us serve even more passengers.

This expansion highlights the key role SkyBus has come to play in Melbourne and celebrates the amazing SkyBus experience which has earned a reputation globally as world class.
