ÖBB Postbus has officially received a completed of 63 fully electric MAN Lion’s City E buses for use throughout the Austrian state of Vorarlberg.

The e-buses, which have now been delivered and put into operation, render every third bus in the state electric, giving Vorarlberg the largest e-bus fleet in Austria with around 100 vehicles in regular service – over half of which are operated by ÖBB Postbus.

Rudi Kuchta, Managing Director of MAN Truck & Bus Austria said:

We are proud of this order, which is our largest single e-bus order in Austria to date.

We are also delighted to be actively shaping emission-free public transport in Vorarlberg as a reliable partner. For MAN, electromobility is the central pillar of our corporate strategy for alternative drive systems, and we are consistently investing in innovative, sustainable technologies.

By spring 2026, ÖBB’s local e-bus fleet is expected to grow to 141 vehicles, with a final goal of increasing this number to 200 by 2030.

Thus far, MAN has delivered a total of 27 Lion’s City 12 E and 36 Lion’s City 18 E buses as part of the current order from ÖBB Postbus.

Each 12-metre bus is capable of carrying up to 30 seated passengers with standing room for 61, whilst all 18-metre e-buses can carry up to 42 seated passengers and 113 standing. All vehicles are equipped with air conditioning systems and integrated heat pumps, as well as swivel-sliding door technology and a number of assistance systems including turn, break and emergency brake assist.

The vehicles operate from Postbus locations in Wolfurt, Bludenz, and Feldkirch, all of which have been equipped with 75 charging points. Recently, the ÖBB Postbus garage in Wolfurt has been seen extensive preparation for the arrival of the new electric buses, rendering it the largest electric bus charging hub in Austria.
