In partnership with Kenya Power, BasiGo has expanded its electric bus charging network in Nairobi, launching three new depots in Taj Mall (Pipeline), Komarock, and Riruta. A fourth site in Juja is also expected to be operational by the end of December.

The move increases the company’s capacity to support a growing fleet of electric buses serving routes across the city.

Each depot is equipped with high-capacity DC fast chargers featuring both GB/T and CCS2 connectors. Through sequential charging, the facilities can support up to 100 buses per day, helping operators reduce vehicle downtime and maintain steady deployment during peak commuter periods.

The sites will use the e-mobility electricity tariff and draw on surplus grid capacity during the night, aligning with ongoing national efforts to manage demand efficiently.

A new service and customer support centre has also been established at the Taj Mall depot. The centre will provide maintenance expertise for vehicles using CATL battery systems and offer technical assistance directly to bus operators. Bringing this capability on-site is intended to strengthen operational reliability and ensure operators have access to specialist support as electric fleets expand.

Moses Nderitu, Managing Director, Kenya at BasiGo said:

We are building the essential infrastructure for the future of public transport in Kenya. This expansion gives bus operators the confidence to go electric. They can see that the essential backbone, from rapid charging to local service, is now in place, ensuring their e-buses operate efficiently and reliably for Nairobi's passengers.

The new installations add to BasiGo’s existing network of grid-connected charging sites in Nairobi. The company continues to operate what is currently the largest DC fast-charging network dedicated to electric buses in Kenya, along with the biggest active e-bus fleet in East Africa.

Kenya Power's Managing Director and CEO, Dr. (Eng.) Joseph Siror said:

Kenya Power is proud to power the future of mobility in Kenya. As demand for electric transport grows, our role is to ensure the national grid is ready to support this shift with reliable, accessible electricity. This expansion is a great example of what’s possible when innovators like BasiGo partner with us to deliver clean energy solutions to the public. By enabling infrastructure like this, we’re not just supporting electric vehicles, we are driving progress toward a cleaner and more sustainable Kenya.
