Flemish Transport Company, De Lijn, has placed an order for 32 articulated electric buses from Iveco as part of its plan to achieve emission-free public transport across Flanders, Belgium by 2035.
This latest investment is valued at approximately 24 million EUR, with the buses scheduled for delivery at the turn of the year 2025-2026.
This order is a continuation of De Lijn’s transition to electric vehicles. The company previously ordered 109 similar e-buses from Iveco, with the first units being delivered this year.
The new buses, each measuring 18 metres in length, will contribute to a more modern and sustainable public transport system while enhancing passenger experience.
Ann Schoubs , CEO of De Lijn said:Completely emission-free public transport by 2035 is a major objective that we are fully committed to. That means greening 3,600 buses at approximately 140 depots together with our partners. This can only be achieved through good cooperation with the various authorities. In addition to the necessary financing from the Flemish government, we are dependent on timely approval of the electrification works at the depots, so that our e-buses can be charged there.
The new articulated e-buses are designed with modern amenities for passenger comfort and safety. Features include:
- Onboard mobile phone charging stations
- Extra-wide screens displaying real-time travel information
- Electrically operated ramps for less mobile passengers
In addition, the driver’s cab is equipped with a heated, ventilated seat adjustable in all directions, while safety measures include camera mirrors, blind spot sensors, anti-collision systems, and cyclist/pedestrian detection.
