Bucharest is set to become the first city in Europe to operate Yutong U12 trolleybuses, following the delivery of 22 new vehicles to Romania.
The Yutong U12 models represent the first trolleybuses produced by the Chinese manufacturer Yutong for the European market. Each vehicle is 12 metres long and has a passenger capacity of around 90 people, including more than 30 seated places.

In addition to operating on the overhead electric network, the Yutong U12 trolleybuses can travel at least 20 kilometres without external power. This is made possible by an onboard rechargeable electric energy storage system, allowing limited off-wire operation.
The trolleybuses are equipped with a range of features aimed at improving passenger comfort and accessibility. These include dual USB charging ports (Type A and Type C), air conditioning in the passenger area, upholstered seating and a ramp for passengers with reduced mobility.
The delivery of the new vehicles forms part of a broader investment in Bucharest’s public transport system, which has included the introduction of 100 Astra Imperio Metropolitan trams manufactured in Romania, 100 Solaris Trollino 12M trolleybuses with battery autonomy, and 100 ZTE Granton 12-metre electric buses.
The 22 Yutong U12 trolleybuses will enter passenger service after a testing period.
