The Budapest Transport Center has announced a new proposal to expand public transport options in Madárhegy’s 11th District.

The area, which has undergone intensive development in recent years, has thus far not received a direct public transport connection. BKK, in partnership with the 11th District Municipality, has announced intentions to launch a brand-new bus service between Madárhegy and the Kelenföld railway station (M4 metro).

The new bus, the 253, is expected to begin operation by the end of 2025 or beginning of 2026 following the construction of any and all necessary stops and traffic engineering infrastructure.

Services are planned to depart at fixed times during the morning and afternoon peak periods, with outside peak times operating via an on-demand system.

The route, which would operate every 30-40 minutes during peak periods and every 30-60 minutes during non-peak periods between 06:00 and 21:00 on weekdays, would utilise Maximid buses and provide quick transfers to the M4 metro, tram and rail lines.

Initially, the first phase would see the bus run from Kelenföld train station on the Budaörsi út–Gazdagréti út–Angyalka utca–Madárhegy route, with the second phase introducing a route of the service  further expanded within Madárhegy following after the complete construction of Medvetalp utca and Kányakapu utca.

A public consultation has been launched on BKK’s website, with members of the public urged to have their say, with comments set to be accepted until 05 November.
