The VDL Bus Group has officially unveiled its brand-new Futura 3 coach during a press conference at Busworld Europe, following the first unveiling of mock-up designs for the vehicle at the last Busworld Europe in 2023.

The vehicle is set to play a prominent role in the company’s presence at this year’s Busworld, which takes place between 4–9 October at Brussels Expo.

During development, VDL also looked to reduce maintenance costs as much as possible, with the vehicle’s final design featuring modular components and improved accessibility to technical systems.

Marc van Doorn, Director Coach of VDL Bus Group, said:

We are proud of our employees who demonstrated their expertise during the development and production of this new flagship.

We are very confident that with this third-generation VDL Futura, we will offer our customers, their passengers, and their drivers an optimal travel experience.

The new vehicle also features updated ADAS driver assistance systems, improved sight lines and a number of structural reinforcements, as well as the capability to operate utilising alternative HVO fuel sources.

Following VDL’s acquisition of Van Hool in 2024; Busworld marks the first outing of the two companies since their integration.

VDL Group recently announced the formation of the VDL Bus Group, which, despite their naming convention, will look to operate entirely independently of one another, with each company seeking its own distinct identity and market focus.

Both brands are set to display unique solutions at this year’s Busworld Europe, where VDL will also showcase its Citea 13.5-metre Low Entry vehicle, and Van Hool will highlight its Astron super-high decker and Astromega double-decker vehicles.
