BYD Mexico recently delivered a batch of 20 electric buses to Mexico City Metrobús, the first in a set of deliveries totalling 55 all-electric buses.
As part of the delivery, which when fully completed will become the single largest electric bus delivery shipment in Mexico to date, BYD has delivered a set of 15-metre, low-floor buses for operation on the city’s local network.
A ceremony was also held to commemorate the delivery of the first batch of vehicles, with attendees including Dr. Martí Batres Guadarrama, Head of Government of Mexico City, Andrés Lajous Loeza, Secretary of Mobility of Mexico City, Rosario Castro Escorcia, General Director of the Mexico City Metrobús and Rat Zou, Country Manager of BYD Mexico.
Rosario Castro Escorcia, General Director of the Mexico City Metrobús, said:Zero-emission, sustainable solutions for transportation operations are essential. Since 2018, we have been working on transportation technology reforms, and this partnership with BYD is an important expression of the transition to electrification of Mexico’s public transportation system.
The buses are set to enter operation on the city’s Line 4, a 35km long route with 40 stations serving roughly 120,000 passengers daily.
Each delivered bus is capable of carrying up t0 130 passengers and has a range of up to 200km, touting a battery capacity of 300kWh with a charge time of roughly three hours.
The vehicles also come equipped with a slew of barrier-free facilities and equipment for those with accessibility requirements.
