At a global premiere, BYD has unveiled its BYD BD11 double-decker electric bus in London, UK.
The new model features the manufacturer’s Blade Battery Chassis, providing increased range and performance, alongside fast charging and superior levels of safety.
The 10.9-metre-long bus is expected to begin operations in London later this year, accommodating up to 90 passengers.
Frank Thorpe, Managing Director, BYD UK Commercial Vehicles said:Introducing our all-new fully electric BYD BD11 Double Deck bus to the UK marks an important moment for BYD in the country and in the very important public transport arena. BYD is proud to contribute highly innovative, world-leading technology for safe and reliable electric mobility, providing operators with modern eco-friendly eBus options that meet their specifications, thus providing more people the choice to use clean, non-polluting bus services in the future. We look forward to the vehicle going into service in London, showcasing the deployment of our industry-leading technology in the mass transit sector.
The BYD BD11 is driven by two 150kW electric motors using a 6-in-1 controller. Meanwhile, BYD’s lithium-ion phosphate Blade Battery is incorporated into the chassis structure to reduce the overall weight of the vehicle. The battery has a 532 kWh maximum capacity.
What’s more, the vehicle’s energy efficiency and range are optimised by an Integrated Thermal Management System.
The BD11 can be charged from 0-100% in just two hours. It features multiple charging positions on the left, right and top of the vehicle for easy access and flexibility. The maximum rate of 500 kW is achieved through pantograph charging.
London’s new electric bus is also equipped with a range of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). This includes Advanced Emergency Braking System (AEBS), Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM), Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA).
The BYD BD11 has been designed specifically for London, with plans for a provincial model to follow.
