CaetanoBus has launched a new series of 8.5-, 12- and 18 metre-long zero-emission buses, expanding its city bus portfolio.
The 18-metre models are set to include a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) version, which will be designed for high-capacity urban routes and feature doors on both sides.

Each bus is equipped with CATL BC5 battery systems, which offer up to 465kWh for 12-metre models, up to 700kWh for 18-metre models and 266kWh for 8.5 metre models. The BC5 technology utilises high-energy-density LFP cells designed to support ultra-long life-cycles.
The CAETANO hydrogen-powered buses are equipped with Toyota’s Fuel Cell Stack Generation 2.5, which provide 70 kW of power. The onboard battery pack from CATL has been expanded to up to 130kWh for the 12-metre FC bus and up to 170kWh for the 18-metre buses.
Both CAETANO’s battery electric bus (e.CityGold) and its hydrogen powered bus (H2.CityGold) have been equipped with a powertrain with CRRC, as well as a 6-in-1 interver system which integrates six functions: drive motor control, generator control, DC/AC oil pump and air compressor control, DC/DC conversion, and high-voltage power distribution with insulation monitoring.
Nuno Lago de Carvalho, CCO and member of the Executive Committee at CaetanoBus, said:Through the joint development efforts of CaetanoBus and CRRC, combined with rigorous software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop testing, the new generation of CAETANO buses represents the forefront of e-mobility engineering—delivering exceptional reliability, performance, and safety for a smarter, more sustainable transportation future.
We are equally proud of our ability to scale this innovation across the entire CAETANO product range, from 8.5m to 18m buses, using a common platform that supports both battery-electric and hydrogen fuel cell technologies. This unified approach ensures maximum flexibility, efficiency, and the seamless integration of cutting-edge systems across all vehicle configurations.
