Calgary Transit has ordered 120 LFSe+ battery-electric buses from Nova Bus to replace older diesel vehicles and increase service capacity.
The purchase is supported by federal funding, which will also be used to upgrade maintenance facilities.

The expansion will increase fleet diversity, with electric buses operating alongside existing diesel and CNG vehicles. This mix is intended to help manage fuel cost variability over time.
Sharon Fleming, Director of Calgary Transit said:This investment means more reliable service, lower operating costs over time and cleaner air in our communities. It also allows us to grow our fleet in a cost-effective way and prepare for future service demand.
The contract has been awarded to Nova Bus, a Canadian manufacturer that is part of the Volvo Group and a long-term supplier to Calgary Transit. The LFSe+ battery-electric buses will be built in Canada and have been deployed in other Canadian cities, including Banff, Toronto and Ottawa.
The new buses will be used mainly on shorter routes and during peak travel periods, with the aim of improving service reliability and reducing emissions in high-demand areas. They will have a similar appearance to Calgary’s current Nova Bus CNG models.
Delivery of the vehicles will start in 2027, with all 120 expected to be in service by the end of 2028.
Paul Le Houillier, President of Nova Bus said:We are very honored and proud of our +15-years partnership with Calgary Transit, which continues with these 100% electric Nova Bus buses. These will complement the current Nova Bus fleet of CNG and Diesel buses that are providing daily transit services for the people of this great Canadian city. This is a remarkable achievement that demonstrates our shared commitment to innovation and sustainability for the well-being of the community.
The federal funding will also contribute to garage upgrades, which will benefit the wider fleet. Infrastructure work linked to the project is expected to create construction jobs in Calgary.
