NFI Group has signed a contract with York Region Transit (YRT) for the supply of 170 Xcelsior® clean-diesel transit buses.

The contract, which includes the purchase of 72 Xcelsior clean-diesel 40-foot buses and 98 Xcelsior clean-diesel 60-foot buses, will see the new vehicles delivered over the course of the next three years, building on a previous agreement in 2023 for the purchase of 75 Xcelsior CHARGE NG® battery-electric buses.

The new contract builds on a previous order agreed in 2023

The new vehicles will enter operation on both regular routes and the York Viva Bus Rapid Transit (vivaNext) rapid ways routes, bringing YRT’s fleet to a total of 535 vehicles, one of the largest in Ontario.

Chris Stoddart, President, North American Bus and Coach, NFI, said:

New Flyer’s Xcelsior clean-diesel buses lead to improved efficiency and lower operating costs, and the new fleet is poised to play a pivotal role in advancing YRT’s vital mission of connecting communities across the York region.

Additionally, the buses will ensure a quiet, clean, and comfortable ride for commuters throughout the Greater Toronto Area.
