The first two of five new Comox Valley BC Transit exchanges are due to start construction in the coming weeks, following on from their announcements in February 2024.
The two exchanges are will be located at the downtown Comox and North Island College locations, with construction for both projects set to be handled by a contractor from Campbell River, Wacor Holdings Ltd.

Construction at North Island College College Campus Road at Lerwick Road will begin this week, with construction in downtown Comox on Port Augusta Street at Comox Avenue expected to start in late August or early September.
Construction is expected to take several months.
The five exchanges, worth around 8.8 million USD, have been funded by the federal and provincial governments, as well as the Comox Valley Regional District.
Four locations in total within the CVRD are set to receive upgrades and transit exchanges, including south Courtenay, downtown Courtenay, downtown Comox, and North Island College – as well as Oyster River in the Strathcona Regional District.
The new exchanges are hoped to improve transit access, customer comfort and safety, as well as support continued investment in frequent transit services.
Each exchange will include concrete bus bays or cub areas in order to accommodate heavy-duty buses, with.the overall project set to implement improvements to pedestrian and road infrastructure and install both new bike racks and larger bus shelters.
