Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), a central government-owned energy services company, has issued a tender for the procurement of 6,230 electric buses to be deployed across Indian cities.
This marks one of the largest single orders for electric buses in the country.

The tender, now open for submission, is part of the Government of India’s PM E-Drive Scheme, aimed at accelerating the adoption of zero-emission public transport solutions nationwide. The buses will be distributed across cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, and Hyderabad, with deployment timelines expected to begin later this year.
The procurement notice specifies that the buses must meet strict technical and safety standards, including long-range battery systems, fast-charging compatibility, and modern passenger amenities. CESL has also emphasised a preference for buses manufactured in India under the Make in India initiative.
