The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) and the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) have extended an invitation to community members to aid future plans that look to transform bus travel throughout the city.

A series of meetings are set to take place to discuss the Bus Priority Corridor Study, which forms a key component of the city’s Better Streets for Buses Plan.

Acting CTA President Nora Leerhsen, said:

CTA places tremendous value on hearing directly from the residents of the neighborhoods we serve, and we are excited to work with our community partners as we take another step in imagining the future of key bus priority corridors across our system.

We are excited to move forward with this important study and look forward to hearing the many thoughts and ideas that will help guide future bus system investments and benefit bus riders for years to come.

The CTA plans to use the Bus Priority Corridor Study to explore solutions for faster, more convenient and comfortable bus travel along five key corridors across the city, including Pulaski Road (from Peterson to 87th), Western Avenue (from Howard to 79th), Cottage Grove Avenue (from 35th to 115th), Fullerton Avenue (from Grand/Nordica to Halsted) and 55th Street/Garfield Boulevard (from Cicero to South Hyde Park).

The five corridors serve over 80,000 rides each weekday and currently connect a wealth of locations across Chicago.

CDOT Acting Commissioner Craig Turner, said:

We look forward to hearing residents’ priorities and input as we work with CTA to develop plans for more efficient and reliable bus service along these high-ridership routes.

CDOT is proud to partner with CTA on this study and to continue investing in infrastructure that enhances the transit experience for Chicagoans.

Both the CTA and CDOT will work with residents, local businesses and community organisation to implement potential bus lanes to ensure traffic movement, upgraded bus stop amenities, improved sidewalks and crosswalks, traffic signal upgrades and other street design changes
