Daimler Buses has completed the delivery of ten 12-metre battery-electric Mercedes-Benz eCitaro city buses to Stadtwerke Bonn (SWB), as well as all associated stationary charging infrastructure, which includes 10 charging points.
The charging points were created and installed by Daimler Buses in cooperation with subsidiary Daimler Buses Solutions GmbH.

The buses and charging points were presented on 20 August by Anja Wenmakers, Managing Director of SWB Bus und Bahn, and Bonn’s Mayor Katja Dörner.
Entering operation in the city of Bonn, the new eCitaro buses will serve to complement SWB’s existing fleet of electric buses from other manufacturers.
The new rapid charging infrastructure, which comprises two charging points with CCS2 plug charging, was implemented on the outdoor site of SWB’s depot in Friesdorf, with Damiler Buses having assumed total responsibility for its planning and construction, as well as the conversion of Bonn’s local public transport system to an electric bus-based network, including civil engineering and cable laying works, electrical installation and the set-up of charging stations.
An additional eight charging points with pantographs, installed on two adjacent bus lanes allowing for the charging of up to eight buses at any one time, provide power as a stationary system, with the pantographs mounted on a steel traverse as a cable bridge.
The steel traverse is equipped with mobile concrete foundations to enable for the rebuilding of the structure in other locations.
The newly delivered buses feature three entrance doors, charging rails on the roof, charging sockets above the front right axle, safety and assistance systems and an active emergency braking assistant.
Each new bus is capable of carrying up to 80 passengers, with a wheelchair parking space located in the special-purpose area opposite the central entrance door.
