Daimler Buses has been awarded a supply contract to supply 37 battery-electric Mercedez-Benz eCitaro G solo and articulated buses.
The contract, which was awarded by Stadtwerke Ulm / Neu-Ulm Verkehr GmbH (SWU), also includes an option for an additional nine eCitaro electric buses, with SWU’s total investment for all 46 buses totalling 34.6 million EUR.

The vehicles are planned to be delivered by the start of 2027, with the nine optional vehicles expected to be delivered in 2027. The new electric buses will gradually replace SWU’s existing diesel bus fleet, and will be put into operation in both Ulm and Neu-Ulm on the Danube.
SWU previously purchased 14 eCitaro G articulated buses in 2024 and 2025.
The 37 new buses will be divided into 15 three-door, 12.14 metre-long eCitaro solo buses and 22 four-door, 18.3 metre-long eCitaro G articulated buses. They offer transport capacity of up to 65 passengers in the solo buses and up to 143 passengers in the articulated buses.
The vehicles also include improved accessibility features, enlarged special use areas for wheelchairs, prams and walking aids, as well as full air conditioning with thermal management, Sideguard Assist 2, Frontguard Assist, active emergency braking assistant, Traffic Sign Assist and Preventive Brake Assist 2 systems.
Each vehicle is equipped with lithium-nickel-manganese-cobalt batteries which produce 111 kWh of energy per battery pack. Charging is up to 300 kW using either sockets or a pantograph on the bus itself.
The buses come fitted with Omniplus’ Digital Services Package, a telemetry-based vehicle diagnostic system which permanently monitors all vehicle systems and provides both fleet management and the workshop with diagnostic information in real time.
