Wavecom Sucssesfully participated in the second ÖPNV Zukunftskongress in Germany, which took place from May 5 to 7, 2025.

The event, recognized as a key forum for public transportation advancements, drew government officials, municipal leaders, transportation authorities, and technology providers from across Europe. During those three days, attendees examined how emerging solutions and collaborative efforts could shape the future of sustainable and secure public transport systems. By focusing on discussions related to innovation, digital transformation, and operational efficiency, the congress served as a crucial arena to exchange insights and learn from experts committed to improving mobility services.

Two men stand beside a Wavecom Technologies display showcasing onboard connectivity solutions for bus transportation, featuring technologies like 5G, SD-WAN, and IoT management, at a public transport networking event.

At the time, Wavecom’s presence in ÖPNV Zukunftskongress, centered on the showcase of its “Connected Bus” solution, a state-of-the-art platform that addressed the growing need for consistent, high-speed connectivity in buses. Built on a robust technological framework, the Connected Bus solution combined onboard Wi-Fi, real-time GPS tracking, CCTV surveillance, and powerful analytics to streamline data management for operators. Buses equipped with the solution were able to deliver uninterrupted internet access to passengers while granting control centers vital information about fleet operations. This development exemplified how modern connectivity tools could boost both customer satisfaction and operational oversight in an ever-evolving public transport landscape.

A core highlight of Wavecom’s demonstration was the newly engineered Gateway device, which featured e-SIM integration for enhanced versatility across various networks. By allowing operators to switch carriers and data plans without physically replacing traditional SIM cards, the Gateway reduced administrative burdens and provided flexibility when roaming or coping with fluctuations in coverage quality. Its rugged design and advanced encryption protocols ensured that day-to-day data transfers—ranging from passenger Wi-Fi usage statistics to real-time vehicle diagnostics—remained secure and tamper-resistant.

Another notable element was the nano agent checkpoint, a compact yet indispensable security layer integrated into the Gateway. This checkpoint continuously monitored data flows, detecting intrusions or suspicious patterns at the device level. By proactively identifying and neutralizing potential cyber threats, the nano agent checkpoint added an extra shield of protection, a feature that was especially appreciated at the congress, where discussions on cybersecurity took center stage. With the rise of smart buses and connected infrastructure in public transit, ensuring system safety and stability had become an increasingly important talking point.

All of these functionalities were anchored by Wavecom’s updated IoT Manager, a cloud-based platform that centralized the management of connected vehicles. Backed by user-friendly dashboards, the IoT Manager made it easy for fleet administrators to view bandwidth usage, track vehicle status, schedule firmware updates, and configure network policies. This holistic approach enabled rapid troubleshooting and offered predictive maintenance capabilities, allowing operators to preemptively tackle mechanical or software anomalies. As a result, the IoT Manager effectively minimized downtime and maximized overall efficiency.

Throughout the event, Wavecom conducted live demonstrations to illustrate real-world scenarios in which these innovations had a tangible impact on bus operations. Transport officials and technology experts had the chance to explore how onboard infotainment could support in-transit announcements, engage passengers, and deliver location-oriented information. Meanwhile, the remote diagnostics features showed how operators could foresee potential equipment failures, thus saving time and lowering maintenance costs. Such insights resonated strongly with participants who were actively seeking solutions to streamline their transportation networks and elevate passenger experiences.

Ultimately, Wavecom’s engagement at the ÖPNV Zukunftskongress underlined its dedication to helping organizations adapt to changing mobility challenges. By presenting the Connected Bus solution, the advanced Gateway with e-SIM and nano agent checkpoint, and the IoT Manager, Wavecom demonstrated a comprehensive vision for transforming public transport through robust connectivity and intelligent management. The discussions, demonstrations, and networking opportunities during the congress paved the way for further collaboration, setting a precedent for future editions of this event and underscoring the importance of continuous innovation in public transit.
