First Bus has announced the withdrawal of all its bus services in Cornwall due to rising costs and dwindling passenger numbers.

The operator has confirmed that it will end all 14 of its existing services in the county on 14 February 2026, with each of its depots in Camborne, Falmouth, Penzance, Summercourt, and Truro set to close and all 85 of its buses scheduled for withdrawal.

First has stated that it has ‘exhausted all other alternatives’, referring to the current state of the business as ‘unviable’.

The operator has begun working with both Cornwall Council & Transport for Cornwall to implement replacement services and ensure a smooth transition.

A statement on the First Bus website reads:

We’re deeply saddened to be proposing a full withdrawal from Cornwall, but after thorough review, no sustainable alternative remains.

In total; First Bus’ withdrawal stands to put 275 jobs at risk across its network.
