FlixBus is expanding its intercity bus network in the US with the introduction of three new routes.

This expansion aims to enhance connectivity across the Midwest and South, offering additional travel options for students, commuters, and budget-conscious passengers.

The new routes, launching in March 2025, coincide with the peak spring break travel season.

Karina Frayter, head of corporate affairs at Flix North America said:

Reliable, affordable, and flexible travel options are more important than ever, and we are making it easier for students, commuters, and budget-conscious travellers to stay connected.

With these new routes, we’re expanding connections between key university towns, major urban centers, and regional transit hubs, giving travellers more choices beyond flying or driving. Whether it’s a student heading home for the weekend, a commuter traveling between cities, or a leisure traveler exploring a new destination, FlixBus is making long-distance travel more accessible, sustainable, and stress-free.

St. Louis – Nashville – Atlanta

Launching 13 March 2025

A new express service will connect St. Louis, Nashville, and Atlanta, in collaboration with Vandalia Bus Lines. The route aims to provide a direct link between the Midwest and South, offering a faster travel alternative.

This service is expected to benefit students from institutions such as Vanderbilt University, Southern Illinois University, and Georgia State University. FlixBus will operate six to seven schedules per week.

Cincinnati – Indianapolis – Chicago – Madison

Launching 13 March 2025

For the first time, FlixBus will include Cincinnati in its network with a route linking Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin. This express service will reduce travel times compared to existing options.

Key stops include the University of Cincinnati, Indianapolis transit hubs, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Operated with Queen City Transportation, the route will offer six to seven schedules per week.

New York – Chicago

Launching 19 March 2025

A new direct service will connect New York City and Chicago, operated by Eagle Bus Lines.

The route will initially offer five to seven schedules per week, increasing to daily service from 14 April 2025.

This expansion introduces FlixBus service to State College, Pennsylvania, home to Penn State University, improving transport links for students and other travellers. Additional stops include Pittsburgh, Columbus, Dayton, and Indianapolis.

Increasing Demand for Bus Travel

FlixBus has reported increased ridership across its network, with a 7.5% year-over-year rise during the winter holiday season. A recent report from the Chaddick Institute projects a 4% growth in US bus travel in 2025, surpassing expectations for airline and car travel.

Rising airfare costs and demand for economical transport options continue to contribute to the growth of intercity bus travel.

Frayter noted:

There’s a shift happening in how people think about travel. It’s no longer just about getting from one place to another; it’s about affordability, convenience, and making smarter choices. We’re building a network that reflects what travelers want today: reliable, stress-free transportation that fits their budget and their lifestyle.
