Daimler Buses has delivered a pair of new eCitaro K buses to Gimmler Reisen, putting into action a plan first conceived as a feasibility study in 2023.
The buses will allow Werner Gimmler Wetzlarer Verkehrsbetriebe und Reisebüro GmbH to operate a complete emission-free buss erice in Wetzlar’s old town on its new, 5.2-kilometre-long Old Town Line.

Replacing the existing city bus concept, the Old Town Line will be fully integrated into Wetzlar’s route and fare system, with services set to run from the city’s train station to its centre between Monday to Sunday each week.
Daimler’s eCitaro K was specifically chosen for the new route due to its length (10.63 metres), as well as its tight turning circle of around 17 metres – both of which allow for manoeuvrability throughout the tighter city streets and passages.
Each vehicle is fully equipped with Daimler’s modern MirrorCam system, which sees traditional side mirrors replaced with high-resolution cameras, as well as the Sideguard Assist 2 turning assistant, which is integrated on both sides.
The buses feature five battery packs on each vehicle with a total capacity of around 490 kWh – allowing for operation of up to 250 kilometres without the need to recharge.
Installation of the necessary charging infrastructure was handled by Daimler Buses’ Solutions subsidiary, which placed six charging points at the Gimmler Reisen depot.
