Glydways has officially broken ground on its first publicly accessible, fully autonomous on-demand transit system in South Metro Atlanta.
The first pilot project seeks to connect the ATL SkyTrain at the Georgia International Convention Centre to the Gateway Center Arena along a dedicated half-mile guideway.
Scheduled to open in December 2026; the free on-demand, AI-based service first originated from a 2019 feasibility study conducted by the ATL Airport Community Improvement Districts (AACIDs), which first recognised ‘gaps’ in both first- and last-mile connectivity within the pilot area.
Ultimately, the new network will aim to assist both unserved and/or underserved populations, improving access to jobs, events, and other modes of transit at all hours of the day.
Pilot phases will consist of construction and guideway installation, vehicle testing, and system commissioning, serving also as a demonstration of the technology, rider adoption, and validation of Glydways capabilities both in Atlanta and elsewhere.
Any and all expansion beyond the initial corridor will be evaluated through a study led by the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA).
