At Busworld Europe, Karsan has presented its Autonomous e-JEST electric bus. This is the manufacturer’s second driverless model, following the e-ATAK.

Based on the electric e-JEST minibus, which has been in service in Europe for several years, the new version is equipped with Level 4 autonomous driving technology.

The six-metre vehicle has been designed to operate on narrow, urban streets while carrying up to 17 passengers, with 12 fixed seats and a dedicated wheelchair area.

The model leverages BMW technology with a 135-kilowatt motor and a 105-kilowatt-hour battery capacity, providing a range of up to 260 kilometres. Fast charging takes approximately 65 minutes.

To operate autonomously, the bus is equipped with 23 sensors, including LiDARs, radars, and cameras, which work in harmony to inform the vehicle’s computer of its surroundings. This data is then processed at a rate of 20 times per second, ensuring safe and reliable driving.

The Autonomous e-JEST is also equipped with hydraulic brakes and four-wheel independent suspension. Furthermore, the interior benefits from convenient details such as self-cleaning grab poles.
