NTPC Limited has delivered a set of 5 hydrogen fuel cell buses to the Sindhu Infrastructure Development Corporation (SIDCO).

The delivery marks the first commercial deployment of hydrogen fuel buses within India and the highest altitude the technology has operated at thus far.

The vehicles have been designed to operate at maximum efficiency for the altitude

The buses were presented at a ceremony attended by Shri Bhupesh Chowdhry, IAS, MD (SIDCO) & Secretary Transport, Shri K K Hota, GM & CEO (NUGEL) and other senior officials from NTPC and Leh Administration.

Delivery of the new units follows NTPC’s launch of the world’s first hydrogen fuelling station and first-of-its-kind Green Hydrogen Mobility Station in Leh last November, which itself sits at an altitude of 11,562 feet and co-inhabits a site with a dedicated solar plant providing 1.7 MW of renewable power for its operational requirements.
