Daimler Buses has delivered the first battery-electric Mercedes-Benz eCitaro K buses to Asti Servizi Pubblici S.p.A. (ASP), marking a European debut for the compact, 10.63-metre model.

This delivery in Asti, Italy follows the start of series production in autumn 2024.

The initial handover included four eCitaro K units alongside 12 standard 12-metre eCitaro buses, with an additional solo bus ordered later in 2024. In total, ASP S.p.A. will integrate 17 new battery-electric buses into its fleet.

eCitaro K Electric Bus

With a turning circle of 17.28 metres and a wheelbase of 4398 millimetres, the eCitaro K is suited for narrow streets and winding routes. The shorter wheelbase enhances manoeuvrability while maintaining high passenger capacity.

Each of the 17 electric buses is equipped with six battery packs from the latest NMC3 generation, providing a total capacity of 588 kWh. Under optimal conditions, the buses can achieve a range of approximately 400 kilometres. Charging is carried out overnight at the ASP S.p.A. depot.

The new fleet, painted in ASP S.p.A.’s red and white livery, features two entrance doors, a manual wheelchair ramp, and an air-conditioning system with a heat pump. Passenger safety is ensured through digital video surveillance, antiviral air filters, and assistance systems such as Brake Assist, Sideguard Assist 2, Frontguard Assist, Traffic Sign Assist, and Attention Assist.

The eCitaro K buses have 26 seats, 54 standing places, and a dedicated wheelchair space, accommodating up to 81 passengers plus the driver.

Omniplus eServiceContract

ASP has also signed a 12-year Omniplus eServiceContract to optimise fleet management and reduce overall operating costs. The agreement ensures predictable maintenance expenses and long-term vehicle availability.

Each new bus is equipped with a Bus Data Centre, which connects to Omniplus digital services. The Omniplus On Uptime pro system monitors diagnostic information in real-time, transmitting fault messages to workshops to improve maintenance efficiency.
