MAN Truck & Bus has announced an intensification of ongoing measures to prevent possible engine damage in older vehicles featuring a D26 Euro 6c engine produced between November 2016 and August 2019.

MAN first announced a call for owners of trucks and buses utilising the engine to undergo inspections in 2022, with 90% of those notified now having had service measures carried out on their vehicles.

In an effort to increase operational robustness, MAN has now shortened the previously recommended oil change intervals by 25% for all trucks in the D26 Euro 6c vehicle generation. It has also stated it will begin replacing the lower engine main bearings in vehicles that already have a higher stress on the corresponding components.

The move has been made in order for MAN to underline responsibility for its products, with the aforementioned engine types prone to damaged oil filter components and engine main bearings if maintenance and repairs are not carried out either on time or professionally, or if the engine oil becomes excessively aged and dirty.

MAN has stated that internal analyses have found that extended service measures have been effective in preventing damage, with roughly 10,000 trucks already having received new engine main bearings to combat potential issues.

The company has begun inviting customers to the workshops that have not yet agreed to a bearing replacement that has already been recommended on the basis of their vehicle history. MAN also provides for precautionary bearing replacement for vehicles in which the analysis from previous service activities, and the findings from ongoing field observation, show an increased risk of engine damage with continued use.

25% of trucks utilising the D26 Euro 6c engines that have not yet received the maintenance are at risk of damage.

The combination of the reduction of the oil change interval and bearing replacement has been shown to even reduce the risk of engine damage in vehicles with a very late replacement of the oil filter cover, as well as vehicles with previous damage caused by improperly carried out repairs or longer and more frequent maintenance delays.

Owners of vehicles in need of inspection and repair will receive individual letters from mid-November.
