MAN Truck & Bus has signed a contract to supply 100 fully electric city buses to South Africa’s Paruk Group, the largest eBus order the company has accepted outside Europe.

The order consists of 100 of MAN Truck & Bus Lion’s Explorer E vehicles, which are based on the Lion’s Chassis E, a vehicle base developed specifically for international markets.

MAN is set to produce the chassis at its plant in Pinetown and the bodies at its plant in Olifantsfontein.

Measuring in at 12 metres; the Lion’s Explorer E electric city bus has been designed as a fully low-floor vehicle and comes equipped with four battery packs, each with a capacity of 80 kWh.

Delivery of the fleet is expected to begin in 2026 and be completed by the end of 2027.

Barbaros Oktay, Head of Bus at MAN Truck & Bus said:

This order is an important step on our journey to make urban transport around the world even cleaner, quieter, and safer. At the same time, it demonstrates the strategic importance of our international chassis business.

We are delighted to be setting new standards for electric mobility on the African continent together with the Paruk Group.
