Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (MFTBC) and Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn) have announced plans to establish a new, standalone bus manufacturer in Japan, focused on the development of zero-emission buses.
The new company is expected to be established in the second half of 2026, subject to regulatory and shareholder approvals.
The partnership brings together FUSO’s bus design, development and manufacturing capabilities with Foxconn’s zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) technology and global supply chain network. Katsuto Kora, currently Director and Head of FUSO Bus at MFTBC, has been designated as chief executive of the new company.

The initiative builds on a memorandum of understanding signed earlier by the two groups to explore collaboration in zero-emission mobility. Through their subsidiaries, Mitsubishi Fuso Bus Manufacturing and Foxtron Vehicle Technologies, the companies plan to cooperate on the development, production, supply chain management and sales of electric buses, starting with Foxtron’s MODEL T and MODEL U platforms.
Buses developed under the partnership will be manufactured at the existing plant in Toyama and sold under the FUSO brand. The new company will be headquartered in Kawasaki, Japan. Alongside electric vehicles, it will continue to develop and improve conventional internal combustion engine bus models.
The new bus-focused OEM aims to enable faster development and market launch of electric buses for Japan and overseas markets, while ensuring compliance with Japanese regulations, quality standards and customer requirements through local development and production.
Definitive agreements have been signed, with transaction completion targeted for the second half of 2026, pending approvals from relevant boards, shareholders and authorities.
