The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has announced that four additional bus routes will be equipped with Automated Camera Enforcement (ACE) technology.

The 60-day warning period for the Bx22, M96, M116 and Bx2 bus routes in both the Bronx and Manhattan will start on Monday 13 October, and any unauthorised vehicles found using busways and bus lanes, blocking bus stops or illegally double parked will receive warning notices in the mail.

ACE technology is now operational across 47 routes in Manhattan

The warning notices issued will stand for an initial 60 day period, with those not paying within the time frame then receiving summonses starting at 50 USD and escalating to 250 USD for repeat offenders.

Joining the existing 43 routes currently enforced, more than 1,300 buses have now been equipped with ACE technology over 510 miles of routes.

The MTA has also stated that bus routes with automated enforcement have, on average, experienced speed increases of 5%, with some corridors seeing gains as high as 30%. Said routes have also seen a 20% reduction in collisions and a reduction between 5–10% in emissions.

Bus stop blockages have also been reduced by 40% on all ACE routes, with 9% of drivers committing more than two bus lane violations following a fine.

The last two routes to be equipped with ACE technology were the M2 and M4 bus routes.
