The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Board has exercised an option to purchase 100 brand-new clean diesel buses from Nova Bus.

The new buses will replace those currently operating on the Authority’s local fleet, and will be fitted with a number of features including driver enclosure, OMNY readers, and Automated Camera Enforcement (ACE).

Set for delivery in 2027, the contract for the 100 new vehicles has been valued at 97.6 million USD.

Recently; the Gun Hill Bus Depot in the Bronx received 11 new clean diesel 60-foot articulated New Flyer buses, which are now currently being introduced into service alongside local and Select Bus Service (SBS) routes – part of a larger order of 245 New Flyer vehicles, with the MTA expecting to receive an additional 100 buses from this contract by the end of the year.

MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber, said:

These new buses are an unexpected holiday gift for the millions of New Yorkers who ride MTA buses every day.

We were able to leverage our contract to deliver more clean diesel buses now while we continue work towards a zero-emissions fleet.
