National Express has announced plans to join forces with Alsa in January 2026, creating a “pan-European coach powerhouse for the future”.
Both companies currently operate under the Mobico Group. Their integration aims to combine market expertise and unlock strategic efficiencies. The combined coach business will be lead by Victor Lopez, General Manager of Alsa Spain and UK.
Meanwhile, Javier Martinez Prieto has been appointed as the new Managing Director for National Express UK Coach.

Javier has more than 30 years of experience with Alsa, where he most recently held the role of Purchasing and Maintenance Director. He will play a key role in advancing National Express’ strategic growth and reinforcing its competitive position.
National Express will retain its brand, which is viewed as a trusted name in UK transport.
Javier Martinez Prieto, Managing Director, National Express UK Coach, said:I’m honoured to lead National Express at an exciting time for the business. Joining forces with Alsa unites two coach giants - each highly respected leaders in their respective UK and Spanish markets, and strengthening our ability to deliver a great transport service for our customers across the UK and Europe.
National Express is the UK’s number one scheduled coach operator, trusted and loved by millions of customers each year and I look forward to building on that success together with our incredible, highly-skilled team.
Kevin Gale will remain CEO of National Express UK and Germany. In the coming months, he will work closely with Javier to ensure a smooth transition while keeping the company’s focus on operational excellence across both markets.
