UK coach operator, National Express is expanding capacity on its UK network, adding over 16,000 extra seats each week across popular intercity and airport routes.

From 4 December, extra services will run between major cities such as London, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Leeds, Leicester, London Heathrow, Newcastle, Newport, Nottingham, and Manchester.

National Express’ modern coach services include leather reclining seats, free Wi-Fi, USB charging points and a generous luggage allowance

This increase responds to recent changes in the market, with Megabus announcing a significant reduction in services across England and Wales. National Express now hopes to fill this gap and accommodate the rising demand for affordable intercity travel.

Ed Rickard, Network Director at National Express, said:

We recognise the growing need for reliable, affordable and convenient public transport options. By increasing capacity and frequency on our key intercity and airport routes, we’re making it even easier for people to get to where they need to be. We’re expecting to see strong demand and have the flexibility to add more capacity when needed, especially as people start to make travel plans for the festive season.

National Express’s increased capacity follows a 25% rise in customer numbers in the previous year, with 19 million passengers using the coach network in 2023.
