Arriva Group has secured a 1.6 billion EUR contract extension to continue operating public bus services in East Brabant, the Netherlands. The renewed contract includes a commitment to fleet decarbonisation, with Arriva set to replace its current diesel buses with 170 new zero-emission vehicles

Awarded by the Province of Brabant following a competitive tender, the new 12.5-year concession will come into effect from December 2026.

Alongside the environmental gains, passengers in East Brabant can expect more frequent and efficient services. Service levels are set to rise by 15%, with the introduction of faster, more direct routes.

Anne Hettinga, Managing Director for Arriva Netherlands and member of the Arriva Group Executive Committee, said:

This new contract extension is another boost for Arriva’s ambitious long-term growth strategy. It reinforces our strong market position in the Netherlands and demonstrates continued trust from local Passenger Transport Authorities in our ability to deliver value for passengers.

We’re excited to build on our existing bus services by rolling out cleaner and more comfortable vehicles and introducing new routes that meet the needs of the communities we serve.

The East Brabant award builds on Arriva’s recent success in the neighbouring West Brabant region, where it began operating under a separate 900 million EUR, 10-year contract earlier this month. Together, the concessions strengthen Arriva’s footprint in the Netherlands and support the country’s push towards more sustainable and efficient public transport networks.
