Flemish transport company De Lijn has officially launched a set of four new electric BYD buses into service on routes throughout Antwerp.

A total of 92 BYD Europe e-buses are expected to be delivered for operation throughout local roads before the end of the year, with more than a third set to be located in the Mortsel depot.

More than a third of the 92 BYD Europe e-buses in production will be located in the Mortsel depot

The remaining vehicles will be located in De Lijn’s Bruges, Hasselt and Winterslag depots.

De Lijn Director General, Ann Schoubs, said:

We expect the same positive response from our passengers to this commissioning as with the other introductions of new e-buses.

After all, they have the same attractive assets. These silent and vibration-free buses are also equipped with USB charging points, an electric ramp for less mobile passengers, improved air conditioning and up-to-date journey information on extra-wide screens. But we have also thought of our drivers. For example, their secure and ergonomic driving position has fully modern safety equipment.

Following the arrival of the first e-bus at the Mortsel depot this spring, drivers were given full familiarisation training in order to ensure compliance.
