NJ Transit has authorised the purchase of 260 40-foot transit style buses, as well as 26 zero-emission buses.

The authorisation marks the completion of a move to a modernised bus and rail fleet by 2031, fulfilling a pledge by President & CEO Kris Kolluri to replace every vehicle in need of replacement.

Currently, NJ Transit oversees the operation of 1,228 40-foot transit/suburban buses, including 121 buses operated by private carriers.

NJ TRANSIT President & CEO Kris Kolluri, said:

Authorising these bus purchases marks the necessary final step toward the full modernisation of our fleet by 2031 for the first time in the agency’s 45-year history, a goal Governor Murphy and I set to strengthen NJ TRANSIT for the people it serves.

Customers will see the impact through vastly improved reliability, enhanced safety features and a customer experience our riders deserve.
