New Flyer Industries Canada, a subsidiary of NFI Group, has received a new order from OC Transpo to deliver 124 Xcelsior CHARGE NG™ battery-electric buses in Ottawa.
The vehicles will be added to Ottawa’s growing zero-emission fleet, with delivery expected in 2026.

The order builds on a 2023 agreement between New Flyer and the Toronto Transit Commission, under which OC Transpo was able to exercise purchase options. It follows a previous order for 51 similar buses made by OC Transpo in late 2023, bringing the total number of Xcelsior CHARGE NG buses ordered to date to 175.
The new vehicles are 40-foot battery-electric models designed to reduce emissions and improve energy efficiency. Their procurement is being supported by a mix of municipal and federal funding, including contributions from the Canada Infrastructure Bank and the Zero Emission Transit Fund (ZETF) administered by Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada.
Chris Stoddart, President, North American Bus and Coach, NFI said:With over 1,100 New Flyer buses delivered to OC Transpo over the past 35 years, New Flyer is positioned to continue to shape the future of public transit in Canada’s capital with our next-generation electric solutions. This follow-up order from OC Transpo highlights our commitment to ensuring competitive delivery timelines so that transit riders can access the new fleet in 2026.
OC Transpo operates bus and rail services across Ottawa and parts of Gatineau. The latest investment in electric vehicles is intended to support the agency’s transition toward low-emission public transport and is part of a broader strategy to modernise services and reduce the environmental impact of its fleet.
