Precise vehicle tracking, integrated infrastructure, and faster processes reduce stops and increase transparency.

The Polish transport company Tramwaje Warszawskie sp. z o.o. has successfully commissioned Peak Mobility’s PEAK.DMS depot management system at the Annopol tram depot. This digitizes and largely automates central processes in depot operations—from vehicle identification and location after entry, to automatic route control and parking. The aim is to shorten throughput times, reduce manual intervention, and optimize infrastructure utilization.

The Annopol depot is operated by Tramwaje Warszawskie sp. z o.o., the largest tram company in Poland. Over 150 trams are prepared for service and stored at the 12–14-hectare depot.

Depot traffic & vehicle management: location tracking, control, automated exits

For vehicle identification and location tracking, 84 RFID antennas, 66 additional sensors, 272 track circuits, and 5 induction loops were integrated into the Annopol depot. An integrated subsystem also ensures the automatic control and monitoring of more than 100 switches and 99 signals or traffic lights. This means that driving personnel in the depot have to stop less often to prepare routes manually.

In addition, PEAK.DMS supports automatic trip planning, including the selection of specific vehicles for defined routes and rotations. This allows trips to be triggered in a targeted and timely manner.

Automated service processes after arrival

After returning to the depot, the vehicles are directed to the appropriate service and maintenance stations depending on their condition and the tasks at hand. This facilitates the efficient use of depot resources, especially with regard to the supply of 152 trains.

Integration of depot infrastructure: gates, diagnostics, washing facilities, consumables

Technical equipment such as entry and exit gates, diagnostic and measuring stations, and washing facilities are connected to PEAK.DMS and controlled automatically. By continuously monitoring the status of the equipment, the system supports its optimal use and helps to avoid bottlenecks in the depot.

User interfaces: Terminals & mobile app for transparent work management

At key locations, such as vehicle reception or repair shops, employee terminals provide clear information on planned orders and detected defects; confirmations enable ongoing progress tracking. In addition, a mobile app offers the following features, among others:

  • Depot overview with position and status of vehicles,
  • Lists of expected arrivals and scheduled departures,
  • Ability to assign defects directly to vehicles.

Benefits for the Annopol depot

At the Annopol depot, the measures significantly increase efficiency: automatic switch setting and gate opening reduce stops and start-up processes, shorten travel and throughput times, and improve track capacity utilization. The reduced manual effort, a central vehicle status, and additional route information facilitate planning and operation. A higher degree of automation in the washing facilities and the integration of diagnostic and measurement values optimize vehicle utilization and increase operational safety, among other things by avoiding de-energized track sections.
