Warsaw’s Woronicza bus depot has begun tests for the next stage of its hydrogen-powered vehicle fleet.

Tests have now begun to assess its new Mercedes eCitaro Fuel Cell bus, which has now begun carrying passengers and will continue do so until 19 February.

Powered by two fuel sources; the Mercedes eCitaro Fuel Cell utilises a mix of a battery pack and hydrogen, with the latter serving to supplement the former.

The vehicle is also equipped with an ‘intelligent mode’, which considers the specifics of a given route and adjusts the power supply to ensure the vehicle is as economical as possible – allowing it to travel up to 450 kilometres on a single charge.

Capable of carrying up to 68 passengers (29 seated); the bus will operate on a number of routes within the Woronicza depot.

The vehicle is the latest in a line of previously tested hydrogen vehicles, including models from Autosan, Solaris and Nesobus.
