Operator MPK Poznań has signed a new contract with Solaris Bus & Coach for the order of five new Solaris Urbino 12 hydrogen buses, opting to immediately expand the order by an additional four vehicles.

The new vehicles are set to be launched into Poznań by May 2026, joining the operator’s existing fleet of 25 Urbino hydrogen buses and building on a business relationship dating back as far as 1996.

The two companies have been working together since 1996
Javier Iriarte, CEO of Solaris Bus & Coach, said:

We are delighted that Poznań remains committed to modern, zero-emission transport solutions and has once again chosen our hydrogen buses. This is yet another step towards green, sustainable mobility in the capital of Greater Poland. Our long-standing collaboration with MPK Poznań is a great honor for us and a testament to the trust placed in Solaris technology.

An official signing ceremony for the contract was attended by a slew of representatives of MPK Poznań, including CEO Krzysztof Dostatni and Board Member Marek Grzybowski, as well as the Deputy Mayor of Poznań, Mariusz Wiśniewski.

Krzysztof Dostatni, CEO of MPK Poznań, said:

Investing in our fleet is a priority for us, as it improves the comfort of public transport and reflects our commitment to environmental protection. Currently, the company operates around 330 city buses, with zero-emission vehicles making up 25% of the fleet. Once the latest electric and hydrogen buses are delivered, this share will exceed 30%. The introduction of new vehicles means phasing out the least eco-friendly ones.

Each of the new vehicles will be equipped with a Solaris High Power battery, which will be capable of supporting the vehicle’s fuel cell during periods of increased energy requirements. The majority of the power for the Urbino 12 buses will come from a set of fuel cells, which are in turn combined with hydrogen & oxygen to generate electricity on-board.

Currently, MPK Poznań’s fleet contains over 300 Solaris buses, with 58 electric and 28 hydrogen vehicles. The latest order comes following a previous contract for the supply of 17 articulated buses from Solaris, which was signed in January 2025.
