Transport for London (TfL) has reopened Cromwell Road Bus Station in Kingston following an extensive upgrade project.
The site reopened on Saturday, 16 November, after an extensive refurbishment aimed at improving customer experience, safety, and sustainability.
The project, led by Transport for London (TfL), includes new facilities and features to make public transport in Kingston more convenient and accessible.
Key improvements of the new facility include:
- Enhanced Safety: New CCTV, LED lighting, and a wider passenger island provide a safer and more secure environment for passengers.
- Customer Facilities: A fully accessible toilet, real-time travel information screens, and a new PA system improve convenience and accessibility.
- Sustainability: The station now features an energy-efficient design, including a new canopy to protect passengers from the weather, resurfaced pavements, and a sustainable urban drainage system (SuDS) to manage water runoff and reduce flood risks.
- Driver and Staff Welfare: Improved facilities for drivers and a new retail unit support those working at the station.
The station serves 32 bus routes, including the Superloop SL7, night services, and buses catering to schools and universities.
These upgrades are part of TfL’s Bus Action Plan, which aims to make London’s bus network safer, more reliable, and more attractive as a sustainable alternative to cars.
Lorna Murphy, TfL's Director of Buses, said:We're determined to make it even easier to use public transport in the capital and our work to transform Cromwell Road bus station has been a key part of our plans to strengthen the network in Kingston. The new bus station has been designed with customers in mind and we hope customers will be able to take advantage of the new and improved station and encourage more people to use local bus services. We thank the local community for their patience during the works and hope they enjoy their new station.
