The Romanian city of Galați has ordered 40 new battery electric buses from Solaris, including 20 Urbino 9 LE electric and 20 Urbino 12 electric models.

The new buses will be delivered at the start of 2025 and will be equipped with both plug-in charging sockets and rails for inverted pantographs.

The battery-powered buses will feature Solaris High Energy batteries, which provide a longer range thanks to high capacity via high energy density.

The 9-metre model will be able to carry up to 59 passengers, while the 12-metre bus will carry 74. Both models will have efficient air conditioning with a heat pump for passenger comfort.

To enhance safety and meet GSR2 requirements, a Mobileye Shield Fisheye system will be installed in the vehicles. This will provide warnings about pedestrians and bicyclists in front of the vehicle and in its blind spots. Furthermore, the system will also have intelligent speed assistance to detect and advise on speed limits.

This contact builds on Solaris’ existing success in Galați. In 2021, it delivered 20 low-emission hybrid buses to the city, following a previous delivery of 12-metre trolleybuses.
