The Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore has announced it has awarded six new contracts for a total of 660 new electric buses to ST Engineering Mobility Services, BYD, Yutong and Cycle & Carriage Automotive (partnered with Zhongtong Bus).

The orders are comprised of a mix of 360 single-deck and 300 double-deck buses, and mark LTA’s first large-scale purchase of a fleet of electric double-deck buses.

All new units are expected for delivery from the end of 2026, with the new fleet set to be progressively deployed for passenger service, gradually replacing diesel buses reaching the end of their lifepan.

Of the 660 buses ordered; 100 electric single-deck buses and 150 electric double-deck buses will be provided by ST Engineering Mobility Services (35.7 million SGD & 79 million SGD); 160 electric single-deck buses and 50 electric double-deck buses will be supplied by BYD (71.3 million SGD & 34.5 million SGD), 100 electric double-deck buses will be delivered by Cycle & Carriage Automotive (57.8 million SGD) and 100 electric single-deck buses will be provided by Yutong (43.9 million SGD).

LTA has also called for a tender to install electric vehicle (EV) charging systems in at the Mandai Bus Depot, as well as the future Kallang, Beauty World, and Tampines North Integrated Transport Hubs.

All new buses will feature improved battery technology and capacity, an updated passenger information system and new safety systems to assist bus captains. Each of the new double-decker vehicles will feature three doors and two staircases.
