Smart Eye has unveiled AIS Focus, a GSR-compliant Driver Monitoring System (DMS) for buses and trucks.

This technology integrates the required Advanced Driver Distraction Warning (ADDW) systems to help bus and truck manufacturers comply with the EU’s General Safety Regulation (GSR).

DMS Buses

From 7 July 2024, the EU requires all new type-approved vehicles to be equipped with advanced driver distraction detection. This mandate will extend to all new vehicles from 7 July 2026.

AIS Focus helps streamline the implementation of this technology to ensure regulatory compliance without excessive costs or lengthy development timelines for manufacturers.

Magnus Brunzell, VP of Applied AI Systems (AIS) at Smart Eye said:

AIS Focus offers an ideal solution for bus and truck manufacturers facing the new ADDW mandate. We've engineered this system to not only meet the compliance needs but also to enhance safety on the road by proactively addressing driver distraction. AIS Focus delivers precision, reliability, and ease of integration, making it an invaluable tool for manufacturers aiming to stay ahead in safety technology.

AIS Focus was unveiled to the public for the first time at the Elmia Lastbil 2024 event in Jönköping, Sweden from 21-24 August.

The technology observes the driver’s gaze to ensure they remain focused on the road. If distraction is identified, a warning will be prompted.

By mandating this capability, the EU GSR thus aim to enhance safety on European roads.
